Behaviour Support
Behaviour Support is the process of applying various principles of learning theories to improve socially significant behaviours to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behaviour.
Our behaviour support specialists will provide an assessment to help us understand the underlying issues of the behaviour. This may involve:
- Review of previous assessments, reports or other relevant information
- Consulting with the person, families, carers and advocates as well as any other professional involved
- Observations of the person within their home and work environments
- Data collection from different environments to help understand the behaviours
- Assess any underlying medical conditions to rule out the possibility of any medical issues impacting their behaviour
The information gathered from above mentioned sources, will help determine how the Positive Behaviour Support Plan will be developed. This plan will look at:
- Best ways of supporting the person
- Providing strategies to staff, families and others involved in the care of the person
- How to mitigate risks
- Protecting the person’s dignity
- Providing the person with any new skills to help them in managing their behaviours
